Paige Bueckers Appears to Tell Caitlin Clark to “Calm Down” in Trending Video of Heated Exchange
Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers clashed on court as the Dallas Wings beat the Indiana Fever — here’s what happened, and why Bueckers picked up a technical foul.
Caitlin Clark and Paige Bueckers gave fans a lot more than basketball on Thursday night. During the Dallas Wings’ win over the Indiana Fever, the two rising stars got tangled up in a heated moment that’s now going viral — and it had nothing to do with the final score.

What Happened Between Clark and Bueckers
Clark was in the middle of arguing a call with an official when Bueckers stepped in and appeared to tell her to “calm down.” It wasn’t exactly Clark’s night on the stat sheet either — she finished with just 10 points on a rough 10-of-15 shooting from the field and 2-of-8 from three, though she did rack up nine assists and four rebounds to keep the Fever competitive.
Bueckers wasn’t lighting it up either, going 5-of-16 from the field for 13 points, along with eight assists and six boards. But the Wings didn’t need her at her best — Arike Ogunbowale carried Dallas to the win with a game-high 32 points.
The whole exchange boiled over in the first half after the two got locked up in a tangled arm-grab. The result: a foul on Clark and a technical on Bueckers for the “calm down” moment that’s now all over social media.
What makes it a little ironic is that just a week earlier, Clark had nothing but praise for Bueckers, calling her an absolute nightmare to guard.
Two of the WNBA’s Best Are Only Getting Started
Despite the rough shooting nights for both players, the tension between them says a lot about where their rivalry stands. Clark is putting up 22.1 points and 8.3 assists a night this season, and she’s building a real case for her first MVP award. Bueckers, only in her second year in the league, is averaging 20.5 points, 5.8 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game — numbers that put her firmly in the league’s elite tier already.
As for the standings, Clark’s Fever sit in third place at 24-13, tied with the Las Vegas Aces. Bueckers’ Wings are eighth at 21-16, but they’re sitting comfortably five games clear of the ninth-place Portland Fire heading into the playoff push.
Thursday marked the final regular-season meeting between the two teams — but with both clubs in playoff position, don’t be surprised if Clark and Bueckers cross paths again when it matters most.

Bueckers Picks Up Her Second Technical of the Season
That technical foul isn’t just for show — it comes with a price tag. Under the WNBA’s current collective bargaining agreement, players are fined $500 for each of their first three technical fouls in a season. This was Bueckers’ second of the year and third of her young career.
$500 might not mean much to a player of her stature, but the fine structure exists for a reason: to keep on-court tempers from escalating into something bigger as the league grows more competitive — and more physical.
Clark, for what it’s worth, has picked up more technicals over her short career than Bueckers has. She finished her 2024 rookie season with six, added two more in 2025, and has already been called for seven in 2026 — after briefly sitting at eight before the league rescinded one following a review.
